Els castellers - the photos!
Written by Senora Stevens
Thursday, 27 May 2010 13:03
So - here are the photographs from last night's adventure on Vilafranca. We're still buzzing about it!
In the photos -
Miquel who is very important person in the Barcelona education department - and is also President of El Castellers de Vilafranca.
We found out that they are the 'world champions' and have been for the last 8 years!
And then we have Señorita Cahill showing her strength.
Not to be outdone, Señora Stevens repeated the feat and added a turn with a child on her shoulders.
Then Señor Worth joined two members of staff from Dorrington school to make a mini tower.
Next time, I'll post a picture of how it should be done!

We're all very tired so you'll have to wait until the morning for all the details and pictures but we've just got back from Vilafranca where Señor Worth, Señorita Cahill and Señora Stevens al took part in a rehearsal of the 'castellers' who build human towers. We've got a video to show you when we get back but it was a very very special evening.

More dragons and lots of fun.

This morning we went to Barrufet school in the Sants area of the city. The school is very unusual as it is in an old factory that has been converted into a school and a library.
And we did see more dragons! Lots of them, all over the school as well as lots of art work, some very nifty scooter parks and lots of stairs!
We also met more wonderful children and saw them learning in their classrooms and playing outside.
Here are a few photographs of the day - you can see more here

It looks like you had a fun day yesterday with Andi and Grandad!
We all had an interesting evening in the beautiful Palau de la Música Catalana - a stunning building - where we heard a 'recicitativo' of The Barber of Seville'.
Off to Barrufet this morning to see another school then back to Els Pins this afternoon.
Not sure if we'll see another dragon though....

Today, both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 had a visitor in their assemblies. Andi Markham, a ventriloquist from Kids UK, led our assemblies (with the help of some special visitors, Jack and Grandad). Everyone really enjoyed themselves and learnt some valuable lessons. We would like to thank Andi for visiting and ask that he comes to see us again very soon! What a wonderful day!
And such a busy day too.
We've visited the Town Hall (el Ayuntamiento / el Ajuntament) and had a history lesson whilst we toured, visited the University (la universidad / l'universitat) and had some lessons then lunch.
And this afternoon, we visited Els Pins! We'll tell you more about Els Pins as the week goes on but the short version is - what a lovely school! The children sang for us and the Nursery class put on a play. Then we went on a tour of the school and met some of the children who were very interested in us and wanted to ask lots of questions. Hopefully we'll have time to answer them all tomorrow.
Hope Mrs Checkley and the other staff are looking after you all and that you're enjoying the lovely weather.
We're going to a concert this evening at the historical Palau de la Música Catalana. It's beautiful from the outside - can't wait to see inside!
More photographs later when Señora Stevens has downloaded them all - she's being taking rather a lot and is only slowed down by the battery dying.
Mrs Allen, Miss Cahill, Señora Stevens and Mr Worth.
PS Guess who we saw at lunchtime? Asun! She sends her love to you all, especially 2HS!

Another lovely morning in Barcelona, and we're all ready for a busy day.
We have a visit and tour of the Town Hall (must make sure Mr Worth behaves!), then a seminar (like a class - teachers learn too!) and lunch. This afternoon we're finally going to see Els Pins, and this evening we are going to a concert at the beautiful historic Palau de la Musica Catalana.
So, hopefully lots more photographs later on.
¡Hasta la vista!

¡Qué dia! 24 de mayo 2010 en Barcelona
Written by Senora Stevens

What a day!
We've been all over Barcelona today on an open top bus, listening to a commentary through very fetching turquoise earphones. We've seen architecture old and new, fishes the size of small sharks and trees that kept getting in the way of our photographs. We've walked in parks, up long straight roads and through very narrow streets. We've eaten paella and local fish, and drunk lots of water (it's hot here!)
Miss Cahill has suffered sore feet, Mr Worth is overcoming his camera phobia but not his dislike of birds, Mrs Allen is still videoing and taking photographs and Señora Stevens is rabbiting away in Spanish at every opportunity. She's not started on Catalan yet but that'll come soon...
One disappointment - Mr Worth and Señora Stevens were very unhappy as the Camp Nou was shut today :o( However, they didn't let it spoil a wonderful day.
Below are some of our pictures. There are 100s of them so we've just picked a few.
